Ran Hwang

Ran Hwang is a South Korean multimedia artist known for creating intricate, meditative installations that explore themes of impermanence, regeneration, and Eastern philosophy. Her work often features thousands of pins, buttons, and beads meticulously arranged on wood panels or Plexiglas, forming images like cherry blossoms, Buddhas, and birds. These materials are chosen for their symbolic value and reflect her use of repetitive, labor-intensive techniques as a form of meditation. Through this unique approach, she aims to represent the transient nature of existence, often inspired by Buddhist principles.

Hwang's art has been exhibited internationally, including at the Leila Heller Gallery in New York and the Opera Gallery. Her work is also part of the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul. Recent exhibitions, such as her 2024 show “Evanescence & Regeneration” at the Leila Heller Gallery, focus on cycles of life, renewal, and healing.
